A pond is its own ecosystem; similar to other ponds in the region, it's also always unique.

Influenced by the landscape surrounding it, indeed influencing it, the pond's banks, sloped and severe, are spaces of radical change, where land exposed becomes land submerged.

Some creatures flit from pond to pond. Others are of their pond and may be the ones who define the pond to curious outsiders.

All a pond's inhabitants and neighbors know and use it in their particular way. The pond has endogenous and exogenous functions and meanings.
